General Format of Talks for Drexel Students:
- There will be one talk per session, each aimed to last 30
minutes,
followed by 10-15 min discussion within the audience and
question-answer sessions with the
speaker.
- Presentations should be prepared as powerpoint
slides (PDF / openoffice documents are OK too).
- Make sure you have a consistent color scheme.
- The slides should be easily readable without eye strain.
- Limit number of slides to 25 or less.
- Present graphs, images, and few key equations.
- No long tables and equations should be included.
- Typeset the equations properly with math editor or make a
document with latex and convert it to images, which you
can then import.
- Avoid unnecessary animations and transitions.
- Check that your presentation displays properly if you are
going to use someone else's laptop to present it, or if you are
switching between different presentation programs.
- Show the presentation to Rajesh and/or your faculty advisor
atleast 3-4 days before the talk, so they can suggest
improvements.
- Reference papers will be announced a week before
the talk, please make the effort
to read it in advance so that we can all actively participate in
the discussion that follow.
- Obvious places to look for potential papers are:
Astrophysics Data Service: http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abstract_service.html
Astro-ph: http://xxx.lanl.gov/archive/astro-ph
Also refer to specialized Astronomy textbooks if needed.
- Senior graduate students engaged in research should think about
presenting results from their work.
