On some machines, during the building of the mmpi support library, you may get a message saying that RANLIB could not be found. On some machines RANLIB has been removed, and the replacement is to use the -s option with the ar command. This is the case on some sgi machines for example. We have provided a makefile in the mmpi subdirectory (makefile.sgi) for use on sgi machines with this fix. If this does not fix the problem please contact us for help.
