2D Godunov Hydro - A Supersonic Jet.

The images here were taken from a calculation done by Kevin Olson(University of Chicago) using a 2D Muscl hydro code with an approximate Riemann(Rusanov) solver.

The simulation has a narrow supersonic jet entering at the left boundary. The direction of the jet inflow at the left boundary has been varied with time. At the time this snapshot was taken the code was using almost 26,000 grid blocks, each of size 8x8, distributed across 128 processors of the T3E at Goddard Space Flight Center.

Image 1. The mass density.

Image 2. Same as image 1 but with the grid block boundaries superimposed.
