The image below shows the results of calculation using a variant of the AMR-MHDFCT code developed jointly at the Naval Research Lab and Goddard Space Flight center. The calculation was performed by Peter MacNeice and is an attempt to explain coronal mass ejections from the sun as the result of shear due to the differential rotation of the sun and its effect on an initial, complex magnetic field structure.
