Photos from Berlin and Prague

Easter 2004 and we had a holiday to Berlin and Prague visiting Claire and Robert in Berlin and meeting Mum, Dad, Alex and Liz in Prague (those photos to come later).

This is a view from the Fernseh Tur - the TV tower. You can see the garden that is the Tiergarten that basically splits East from West. The road is Unter der Linden which is the most famous road in Berlin.

Claire and Francisco in front of the Rote Rathaus - the Red Town Hall - yes it is red!

Claire and I at the famous Brandenburg Gate - smaller in real life but not as small as Robert's joke.....

Francisco and I at a piece of wall near the Potsdamer Platz

Roof of the Sony Centre at the Potsdamer Platz. The Potsdamer Platz is sort of like Times Square or Leicester Square. It didn't used to exist though, being pretty much where the wall ran.

The Reichstag otherwise known as the German Parliament. Look at the line - we didn't que in the rain but going into the dome bit is supposed to be cool.

Claire and I at part of the remaining wall. It really struck me just how close East and West were and just this horrid patch of land separated them. The wall wasn't even that high but the patch of land, known as the death strip, between East and West was what provided the border.

Gedachtniskirche - translates to the thought church or something close. Basically it was bombed during the second world war but the church remained intack apart from the tower. They decided to keep it up as a reminder. The modern building next to it is the new church - horrid from the outside but inside the glass gives a nice blue light.

View of the Spree river with the Three Men sculpture. There was even a rainbow which came out on the photo but might not be visible on screen.

Bei Claire and Robert - at their apartment. Very nice place they have

Robert took Francisco for a spin on his BMW bike. Brum brum. Note the graffiti - that is one problem that Berlin now has.

Next stop Prague. Here is the Spanish Synagogue.

The Old Town Square with the Tyn Cathedral. Lovely

A postcard of the Tyn Cathedral.

The Astronomical Clock in Old Town Square

Good King Wenceslas looked out etc etc

Alex is looking rather non-plused at Dad's singing

A church in Prague but I liked the roof

The only modern building - called Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers

My view of the Charles bridge and the castle

Postcards view of the Charles Bridge and Castle

Francisco with view of the parliament and the Vlatava river made famous by Smeta's music.

We had a little adventure. and took a trip out of Prague to Karlstejn Castle

Again better view of Karlstejn Castle

Walking around we happened to find these two famous chaps - well famous in astronomy circles anyway.

Entrance to the castle

Lovely cathedral in the castle grounds.

Smile please and end of the Prague trip
