When planning a trip to Ohio, I (of course) checked to see if there were any diners along the way. On an old diner calendar (ironically representing the same month that I visited Ohio) I found the Emerald Diner, located in Ohio, just south of I-80 after leaving Pennsylvania. This 1939 O'Mahony sits between the Hubbard Trading Post and one of Hubbard's first general stores. Enough history already! Probably one of the cleanest old manufactured diners I have seen in a long t ime, the service was great and so was the food. If you don't order anything else, you MUST get a piece of warm homemade apple pie. Don't do like I did. I tried to share my husband's. Major mistake! We had not originally planned on getting desert (I had a cheesesteak..in Ohio..go figure), but after watching them peel the darn apples right there at the counter, what else could we do?
They do have small replicas of the diner for sale. My only disappointment was that they were sold out when I was there and since I wasn't coming back through Hubbard until Sunday (they are closed on Sundays), I didn't get one. I guess I'm going to have to make another trip "across the border" soon. This time I'm getting my OWN pie! -- Review by Rosie.
