Iowa

Hamburg Inn No. 2
214 N. Linn St., Iowa City. This place isn't really a diner -- no "diner" in the name, no bottomless cup of Joe (then why I am I typing this? I think to myself, ed.) However, the all day breakfast reigns supreme. Food is cheap, filling, and above all, yummy. You gotta try a Zadok (Umm.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't his descendants the high priests of the Temple in Jerusalem?) Omelette -- it's pretty amazing food. Iowa reviews by Lynn Hoffman.

An Additional Response: WEll i am not quite sure that this is a review but since on of the night supervisors at the Hamburg Inn #2 (the only one left) i would like to correct some of the mistakes....its is called the Zarak omlette not the Zadok, the name was taken from the Duck's Breath Mystery Theatre film "Zadar, Cow from hell" we do have a bottomless cup of coffee. Unless i am mistaken this is the ONLY diner left in Iowa City.....heck less than 1/2 a block away is Pearsons Drug store home of one of the last working SODA FOUNTAINS in the state if not country. The Hambburg has been visited by people famous hence we have the Ronald Reagan Table (he ate his desert 1st) some pictures of other famous folks line the walls, heck if you are lucky you will see Dave (the owner) decked out in his clown garb.....its a 50's time capsule of good eating......so stop in. -- Comments by parke@iowacity.net

Mississippi Cafe
On 7th Ave. S, Clinton. Midwest at its best. It is said that you can take the leftover meat from a hamburger, and make goulash for a family of six. (Presumably, this is said of the hamburgers at this establishment, but I can't be sure, ed) Cheap. They play country music, which is essential to a full appreciation of the joint.

Rose Cafe
On South 2nd St., Clinton. Limited menu, but you can be sure that anything you get will satisfy a hearty hometown appetite. Get the pancakes! The menu claims you only get three, but they are the cover the whole damn plate.
