The average from all the above density maps are presented below. The left picture represents the average density map from a frontal perspective, and the right picture a perspective from the side of the surface. The colors indicate a low to high neuron density (green -- yellow -- red). The map is interpreted as follows, the average neuron sits at the center of the map (dark spot). Because two neurons cannot sit at the same point, this position has a very low density of neurons. Directly above and below this point there is a high neuronal density, indicated by the pronounced red color. Bands of red columns can be identified in the horizontal direction. This are the microcolumns.
