Welcome to the Drexel University Chapter of the Sigma Pi Sigma (ΣΠΣ)! Sigma Pi Sigma exists to honor outstanding scholarship in physics; to encourage interest in physics among students at all levels; to promote an attitude of service of its members towards their fellow students, colleagues, and the public; to provide a fellowship of persons who have excelled in physics. It strives to promote physics at all stages, to promote fraternity between those who excel at physics, and to promote service among its members. Membership is by invitation only and requires strong academic performance in physics and good character.

Announcement: The Drexel chapter has been awarded its second, successive Sigma Pi Sigma Chapter Project Award by the American Institute of Physics for its proposal entitled "Honoring and Uniting Present and Future Faces of Physics". The chapter is one of only 13 chapters nationwide to receive the award. The announcement is posted on the website of the national Sigma Pi Sigma organization.

2009 Inductees

In 2009, Prof. Roberto Ramos applied for and obtained a Sigma Pi Sigma grant to revive Drexel's Sigma Pi Sigma Chapter, which was inactive for more than two decades. On May 9th, 2009, Drexel's Sigma Pi Sigma Chapter held its most recent formal Induction Ceremony, introducing five physics undergraduates and four physics graduate students to the Honors Society.

The inductees this year were: Joseph Angelo, Jr., Edward Damon, Thilanka Galwaduge, Joseph Lambert, Zenghui Liu, Jerome Mlack, Vede Ramdass, Alyssa Wilson and Donna Yosmanovich. Sarah Wagner also transferred her current Sigma Pi Sigma membership to the Drexel University chapter. Congratulations to them all!

The photo album and the program from the 2009 Induction Ceremony are now available online. Two distinguished Drexel physics alumni, Professor Elia Eschenazi of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and Ms. Stephanie Tobler gave inspirational talks and helped unveil the Annual Outstanding Physics Student perpetual plaque.

SPS Officers

Our Sigma Pi Sigma chapter was also awarded a 2009 Chapter Projects Award for our revival of the chapter and the hosting of our first induction ceremony in May. The final project report is now on the official Sigma Pi Sigma website.
