The Joseph R. Lynch Observatory at Drexel University

Public School Outreach and Education

Professor Dave Goldberg and John Parejko have recently recieved a NASA OSS/EPO grant to help the Philadelphia School District with their 6th grade astronomy curriculum.

This grant has two parts:

Student observing nights
Bringing in 6th grade students from around the district to use our telescope for visual observing and imaging.
Teacher enrichment
Offering a free astronomy series for ACT 48 credit to all teachers in the Philadelphia School District.

Please contact John Parejko to recieve a syllabus or for more information.

For reference, Touch The Universe: A NASA Braille Book of Astronomy is an excellent book for visually impaired people. It includes images from the Hubble Space Telescope with descriptions in both text and braille, with portions of the image raised and marked to deliniate galaxies, stars, colors, etc.

The Joseph R. Lynch Observatory has been made possible by the Generosity of Joseph R. Lynch '58 and the GE Foundation.
