Meta Institute for Computational Astrophysics
MICA is a virtual astronomy institute featuring many activities related to MODEST and other projects in astrophysics. Aimed at harnessing the capabilities of virtual worlds and 3D collaborative environments (such as Second Life, Qwaq, Sun Wonderland), it fosters interaction among astrophysicists with interest in large-scale simulations, including dense stellar systems. Outreach and educational activities are also major MICA goals. MICA weekly events include popular talks, computational astrophysics lectures and Journal Club discussions of recent astro-ph papers.

May 9, 2008:
Dark Energy From Vacuum Fluctuations by S.G. Djorgovski and V.G. Gurzadyan, 2007 Nuclear Physics B 173, 6 http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/astro-ph/0610204 S.G. Djorgovski will attend the Journal Club and present the paper at the ISM Workshop.
General Schedule
We will be having regular events on Fridays according to the following tentative schedule:
- First Friday: Popular talk.
- Second Friday: Journal Club.
- Third Friday: Simulations School.
- Fourth Friday: Journal Club.
A possible fifth Friday is being left open for now as a flex day.
Every Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. SLT (SLT=Pacific Time), 11:00 a.m. EDT we will have the general MICA meeting in SL.
The meeting will start with "coffee time" at 7:30 a.m. SLT but the actual discussion will start at 8:00 a.m. SLT.
General MICA meeting will take place in the ISM Workshop: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Spaceport%20Bravo/153/205/59
